The unintended expat blogger behind Blue Hollow Note

Hi there, I’m Giulia
I work as a project manager and am a parent, living abroad in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family, and what began as a short-term assignment gradually became a whole new chapter of life overseas.
How It Began
Moving to Italy wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many expat relocations, it started as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something far bigger.
The early months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complicated than they should.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Created Blue Hollow Note
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was an honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.
What This Site Is About (And Isn't About)
This site Stands For:
- Real-world experience from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and everyday realities
- Updated whenever a genuine change occurs
This site Is NOT:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Italy continues, along with the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Giulia
